Description of Elk Ranch
This Montana ranch is 4000 acres of deeded land with 6 miles of river running through the middle, another 1700 acres of BLM and state leased land, and a private elk herd of 150 head. The elk herd is located on 1500 acres of the deeded land under an eight foot high fence. While the ranch is rated for 300 cow/calf pairs, presently the focus is on recreational use awesome hunting, fishing and scenery. Three miles of creek, a 2 acre lake and acre pond in addition to the 6 miles of river are home to rainbow trout, brown trout, sauger, walleye, channel catfish, bass and northern pike. Traveling over the ranch, which is about 25% fir and pine timber, you will see mule deer, whitetail deer, Rocky Mountain elk, pheasants, turkeys, wild partridges, and Canada geese. Improvements on the ranch include three 3400 square foot two-story homes, a large barn, another smaller barn and shop/garage. (A lodge on five acres in the middle of the ranch is under separate ownership.) Water rights and mineral rights are included with the ranch. There is an area where it might be possible to put a 3250' private airstrip on a ridge top, and a potential place for a 12 acre stock-water reservoir on one of the creeks. Awesome views of the Bear Paw, Moccasin, Judith, Snowy, Little Belt and Highwood mountain ranges give you the real flavor of the big country.
